Happy New Year?

they say that during the CNY,
it is when family members come back together for reunions.
where old feuds are put behind,
and family members make up so that everyone can enjoy their new year in happiness.
yeah right.

my family's new year was filled with.
questions.
angry words.
shouting.
tears.
unmet expectations.
pain.
regret.
guilt.
masks.
fake smiles.

my worst CNY celebration ever.
never in the 26 years of my life,
have i ever experienced such a
pain-stricken new year celebration.

dont tell me to pretend that everything is alright.
cos it is not.
dont tell me to smile so that we have good luck.
i dont care shit about luck.
dont shout at me just because you are upset.
cos i am equally upset as well.
